Students can vote! (October 17 – save the date)

/

Young adults are hit hard by the housing shortage, and who gets elected to Victoria City Council on October 17 will make a difference.

The housing shortage causes low vacancy rates which results in high rents. There are election candidates who support more housing. I am a very strong supporter of more housing (see my other blog posts and my social media accounts). I’m also a very strong supporter of climate action, and climate change is a big concern for every age bracket in Canada but especially young adults.

If you are a student, or if you know one, here is some student voter information. Please share it.

I will be adding more details to this post as we get closer to the election. See also my post with general voting info – how, where, when etc.

You can vote in the Victoria City Council election on October 17 if you are:

  • a resident of the City of Victoria (no minimum time required)
  • a resident of British Columbia for at least six months before the day of registration
  • 18 years of age or older on election day
  • a Canadian Citizen
  • not disqualified by law from voting.

If you usually live in one jurisdiction and attend school in another jurisdiction, you can vote in either one.

By the way, there are many municipalities that make up Greater Victoria (though the City of Victoria is the best NGL). Below are maps of (1) the City of Victoria and neighbouring municipalities, and (2) the street boundaries of the City of Victoria, so you can see whether you live in the City of Victoria.
