Update July 8, 2025: the Citizens Assembly still says “The final report will be published here and submitted to councils of both municipalities in May 2025.” It hasn’t been published or submitted to council.
The Victoria Saanich Citizens Assembly has announced that it recommends amalgamation.
It hasn’t written its report yet. When it writes it, I will be interested to read it.
From its September 21 news release:
“The Assembly’s mandate is to deliberate over eight months on whether and under what circumstances Saanich and Victoria should amalgamate or pursue greater service integration. Their task culminates in June 2025 with a consensus recommendation to both municipal councils.”
So contrary to the claim in its April 5 release, the Assembly has not been deliberating for 8 months.
